Mobile First: A Paradigm Shift in Digital Marketing [Infographic]

Ever since the onset of the mass mobile web in 2007, there have been dynamic changes in the way users search the web. It took 5 years for smartphone and tablet sales to outgrow PC sales, and an additional 3 for mobile search to dominate over PC and laptop searches.

In response to the shift in user behavior, Google not only rolled out its mobile-friendly ranking update, but also developed a new type of indexing to coexist alongside desktop indexing. Naturally, they called it mobile index.

Almost immediately, it was announced that mobile indexing will be given priority over desktop indexing, and the testing of mobile-first index officially began.

Take a look at how mobile optimization became a must for online marketing, and how the paradigm further shifted from mobile-friendly to mobile-first.
